Neil Lennon’s departure from Celtic was announced while Stephen Gallacher was playing his first round at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, but the Hoops supporter already suspected the Northern Irishman was set to leave.
Gallacher sat next to Dermot Desmond at the European Tour Players’ Awards at Wentworth on Tuesday when the Hoops owner informed him Lennon appeared poised to vacate the Parkhead hotseat.
He said: “I had spoken to Dermot at the dinner on Tuesday and he told me. I think Neil Lennon has done a great job.
“It is just unfortunate Celtic have had to sell our best players. I am sure the new manager coming in will be up to the task but it is a big job.
“I don’t know who will get it but Davie Moyes would be good. Paul Lambert, Malky Mackay, there are a few names in the frame.
“There are rumours about Larsson and he is odds on at 1-3. The bookies are never that wrong. Dermot wouldn’t tell me, he just said the club was on the hunt for a new manager.”
