Donald Trump’s Aberdeenshire golf course is in the running to host the 2019 Scottish Open, according to reports.
The event’s sponsor, Aberdeen Asset Management, are understood to be keen on the tournament returning to the north-east with the International Golf Links course currently the favourite venue.
The course, which was also put forward as a rival bidder for the 2018 event that will be held at Gullane in East Lothian, has been visited a number of times by European golf officials.
However, a spokesman for the European Tour said: “No decision on future venues of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open has been taken beyond 2018.
“Our focus is on delivering a successful championship, with its strongest field to date, at Dundonald Links next month followed by our return to Gullane next year.”
Any move to appoint Trump International as the home course for the event could prove controversial, following a number of dispute with local residents over the facility’s planning.
A spokesman for the Scottish Government, who is a partner in the tournament, declined to comment when approached by a national newspaper.
