Rees quickest in Inverness parkrun debut

Aberdeen University geography graduate Halina Rees (Fife AC) made her mark when taking first position overall on her debut in the Inverness parkrun 5km.

The former Scottish junior 5,000m track champion recorded 18:56 to share the same time as veteran David Kerr (Highland Hill Runners).

Inverness Harriers’ youngsters Euan Rollo, 19:30, and Lewis Esslemont, 19:35, filled the next two positions with respective times of 19:30 and 19:35.

Rhona Grant (Highland Hill Runners) was second woman in 20:01 with Isla Kelly (Inverness Harriers) third in 21:22.

Owain Bristow was just one second outside his best time when taking top spot in a field of 217 at the Aberdeen Hazlehead parkrun 5km in 17:02.

Teenager Edouard Lecrivian (Aberdeen AAC), making his first appearance in the run, was second in17:42, while Mark Young (Metro Aberdeen) finished third in 18:51.

Julie Thomson set her fastest time of 22:05 when leading home the women’s field in which Jenny Stanning (Rebbel PT) was second in 22;14 and veteran Marianne Lang (Grampian Orienteers) was third in 22:28.

Paul Knight led home a field of 303 runners in the Aberdeen parkrun 5km, clocking a personal best 17:02 to finish 21secs ahead of his clubmate David Jamieson who also ran his fastest time of 17:23 while Stonehaven Running Club veteran Michael Barker was third in 17:32.

Just one second separated the fist two women with Fiona Wilkinson (Metro Aberdeen) achieving her quickest time of 20:28 to finish just ahead of Rebecca Bryce (Stonehaven Running Club) while Clare Russell (Metro Aberdeen) was third in 20:56.

Teenager Stuart Gardiner (Inverness Harriers) finished well ahead of the field in the Aviemore parkrun 5km when recording a time of 17:46. Alan Riach (Cairngorm Runners) was second in 19:11 with Ian Simpson third in 19:35.

Former Metro Aberdeen runner Ali Matthews (Darlington Harriers), who won this year’s Blackpool marathon, was first woman in 19:43. Heather Gardiner (Inverness Harriers) pipped Annie Fraser (Cairngorm Runners) by two secs to take second position in 22:35

Garioch’s David Barclay was the fastest finisher in the Elgin parkrun 5km, clocking 17:37 while James Walton took second position in 18:20 and Kenny Douglas (Forres Harriers) was third in 19:06.

Lori Sutherland headed the women’s field in 22:42 followed by Catherine Angus (Morray Tri), 24:28, and Michelle Russell (Moray Road Runners), 24:30.

Kyle Henderson (Metro Aberdeen) clocked 17:59 to finish six secs ahead of Andrew Bllackhall (Fraserburgh Running Club) in the Ellon parkrun 5km in which Kevin Riddell (Perth) was third in 18:21.

Carly McNeil (Aberdeen AAC) was first woman in a personal best 20:18, followed by Gillian Edwards (Perth), 22:52, and Kelly McLeod, 24:04.

There were personal best Stonehaven parkrun 5km times for the first two finishers with Graeme Gardner recording 19:34, and David Eades (Lothian), 20:13. Debut man Oliver Harris (Liswerry Runners) was third in 20:31.

Jennifer Cursiter led the way in the women’s division of the run in 27:59 while Stonehaven Running Club duo Victoria Shanks and Kate Robertson were next home with respective times of 29:56 and 29:58.

Metro Aberdeen’s Dave Andrews was first over-40, ninth overall, in the Glen Ogle 33 mile ultramarathon. Iain Caroll (Giffnock North) won in 3hr 48min 8sec while Andrews clocked 4:05:02.
