Great Britain junior international Anna Macfadyen, from Kinloss, is among the leading contenders for the under-20 women’s 4km title in tomorrow’s Scottish cross country short course championships at Kirkcaldy.
The Forres Harriers club member, who is in her first year at Edinburgh University, has been in fine form this season, helping her student team win the East District and Scottish cross country relay titles.
Macfadyen’s rivals include fellow Edinburgh student Naomi Lang, who represented Scotland in the 3,000m at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas in July.
Lang leads a strong Aberdeen AAC squad which also includes Rebbeca Eggeling and Anisha Badial.
Clare Stewart (Banchory Stonehaven AC), who has also been in excellent form this winter, is another contender for the title while Aberdeen University student Zoe Bates, representing Edinburgh AC, is another who should do well.
Scotland track and hill running international Grace Whelan (Moray Road Runners) should be a strong medal contender in the under-17 girls’ race in which Emily Andrew (Inverness Harriers) and Kirsty Oldham (Aberdeen AAC) will also aim to make an impression.
Twins Caitlin and Kirsty Purcell are included along with Adele Gillespie, Connie Hatfield, Mia Lovie and Iona McGuire in a big Aberdeen AAC squad for the under-15 girls’ race.
