Inverness athlete Mhairi Maclennan is to run in this weekend’s British cross challenge race at Teardrop Lakes,Milton Keynes as part of her preparations for the European cross country team trials at Liverpool later in the month.
The postgraduate Spanish Literature student has been in fine form in recent weeks, helping her Edinburgh University team win gold medals at both the East District and Scottish cross country relay championships.
She topped off these results by setting a personal best 10km time of 33min 55sec in last Sunday’s Leeds Abbey Dash.
Maclennan hopes to launch a strong bid for a place on the Great Britain women’s under-20 side for December’s European cross country championships in Å amorÃn, Slovakia when she competes at Liverpool on 25th November.
She hopes this weekend’s race will boost her confidence a little further in the countdown to the trial on Merseyside.
Aberdeen AAC’s Jane Davidson makes her debut for the Scotland team in this weekend’s schools international pentathlon competition at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.
The Hazlehead Academy pupil is to compete in the over-16 girls’ match alongside Banchory Academy’s Clare McGarvey while Westhill Academy’s Robbie Farquhar is to take part in the over-16 boys event.
Scotland international Nicola Gauld is favourite to win the top women’s prize in Sunday’s Peterhead 10km road race which has attracted a capacity field of 250 competitors.
The Aberdeen AAC runner is making her first appearance in the Blue Toon event since setting a course record time of 35min 33secs in 2012.
Gauld’s best time this year is 35:20, set when winning the Metro Beach 10km in June, while last weekend she clocked 35:54 when competing for Scotland in the Leeds Abbey Dash.
Her opponents include Peterhead AC’s Shelly Duncan who won Aberdeen’s Union Street mile in August and JogScotland Kintore’s Julie Hoyle, the Dandara 5km champion.
Tom Roche (Garioch Gazelles), winner of this year’s Run Garioch 10km and the Dyce half marathon, is one of the leading entrants in the men’s race with Cammy Robertson (Metro Aberdeen) and Jamie Ross (Deeside Runners) among his likely challengers.
The race day programme also includes fun runs for youngsters, starting at noon.
