Scotland international Jenny Bannerman will set off for a sunshine break in Tenerife later this week after producing an excellent performance in yesterday’s Nairn 10km.
The Inverness Harrier won the women’s title for the fifth time in seven years when finishing 12th overall from a field of 326.
Bannerman recorded 35min 28sec, which is the quickest she has achieved on the Nairn course. It’s the fourth best time of her career and is just 19sec outside her fastest, recorded at Leeds last year.
She said: “Of my four best 10km times, this one has been achieved on the toughest course and in the hardest conditions. Before the race started I had written off any chance of getting quicker than 36 minutes, so I am delighted.
“I’m looking forward to getting some warm weather when I go to Tenerife. There’s a track close to the hotel so I’ll be training.”
Bannerman has a busy schedule planned after she returns, beginning with a series of 5km races at Lancashire, Balmoral and Edinburgh. She also plans to run more 10km races later in the summer.
Louise Cartmell (Moray Road Runners) and Hazel Wyness (Metro Aberdeen) both set personal bests for second and third with respective times of 38:29 and 39:05. Wyness was also first over-40.
Grace Whelan (Moray Road Runners) was first under-20 in 41:37 while Heather Gardiner (Inverness Harriers) won the over-50s in 43:13 and Margaret Bryant (Garioch Road Runners) was the top over-60 in 58:39.
