Sam Locke is hoping for a big week as he prepares to make only his second European Tour appearance since turning professional today.
The Stonehaven golfer’s hopes of winning his card via the qualifying school were dashed when he failed to qualify from the first stage last week but his invitation to the Dunhill Links gives the 20 year-old, who won the silver medal at the Open championship as the best amateur, another chance to make an impression.
He said: “It is an exciting opportunity for me. I played in Portugal a couple of weeks ago as well, so it is nice to get into two European Tour events and I can’t wait to get going this week.
“I played in the first stage of the European Tour Qualifying School last week, but it didn’t go well, unfortunately. So I’m not sure exactly the immediate future holds for me. I’m focusing on this week at the moment and then after that we will have a chat.
“This is a good chance for me to have a big finish and I’m certainly going into it with a positive frame of mind.
“I’m not exactly sure what doors might open if I had a very good week here but it is obviously going to help me in some way if that happens.”
