Aberdeenshire CC have gained a boost with the confirmation that international star Matthew Cross will play for the Mannofield club at the start of the new league season.
The 26-year-old opener has been one of his country’s leading players in the last few years and he and fellow north-east batsman Kyle Coetzer put on a superb century partnership during last summer’s historic ODI victory against England in Edinburgh.
The Press and Journal has learned that Cross will play for Aberdeenshire against Stewart’s Melville CC and Grange on April 27 and May 4 when the Eastern Conference gets underway.
It will help bolster Shire, who will be looking to improve on their results in the last two years of the championship.
The Scotland players have been instructed to seek competitive fixtures in advance in next month’s ODIs against ICC Full Members, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
Aberdeenshire began the new season on Saturday with a friendly against Gordonians. Both clubs held a minute’s silence in honour of Scotland star Con de Lange, who died from a brain tumour on Thursday, aged just 38.
