Scotland and British and Irish Lions rugby legend Gavin Hastings is calling on golfers to sign up for a unique opportunity to play at Royal Troon and raise funds for Parkinson’s UK.
For the first time, Royal Troon is making its Open Championship course available for an external charity and Parkinson’s UK is delighted the club is supporting its work.
The event is on Thursday, October 10 and teams of four will be able to enjoy 18 holes on the championship links, followed by dinner in the historic clubhouse.
Entertainment will be provided by another Scotland rugby legend – Peter Brown – and there will also be a fundraising raffle and an auction.
Mr Hastings, a member of his country’s 1990 Grabnd Slam-winning team, has been supporting Parkinson’s UK since his wife Diane was diagnosed with the condition in 2003.
He said: “I enjoy my golf and what better way to raise money for a great cause than doing something you enjoy?
“This year, Parkinson’s UK are offering the chance to play on Royal Troon’s magnificent Old Course, followed by an evening of dinner and entertainment in their Club House.
“As the club’s first ever external charity day, it’s a fantastic opportunity to play on an Open Championship Course, knowing it’s all for a great cause.
“But if you can’t make it to Troon, then why not get together with family, friends or colleagues to organise your own Par for Parkinson’s, raising vital funds for Parkinson’s UK. Whether it’s a golf day, competition or quiz, the money you raise will help us continue working for better treatments and a cure.”
Jan Mattison, regional fundraiser for the charity, said: “We are thrilled that the Royal Troon Golf Club have given us this fantastic opportunity. It’s only through support from organisations and individuals that we can provide vital services and support our world-leading scientific research to find better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s.
“We’d love to welcome golfers to this iconic course. Join us in a unique day and help us raise important funds.
