Aberdeen swimmer Toni Shaw described winning silver in the S9 100m butterfly at the World Para Swimming Championships in London as the biggest achievement of her life.
The 16-year-old, who trains with Aberdeen University, won bronze in the S9 100m freestyle on the opening night of the championships.
But Shaw went one better last night after swimming a British record time of 1:07.83 to finish second behind New Zealander Sophie Pascoe, the nine-time Paralympic gold medallist who set a championship record time of 1:04.35.
Albyn School pupil Shaw said: “To see my parents happy up there in the crowd was really special. They have done so much over the years to help me get here. All the early mornings were worth it. This is the biggest achievement of my life so far, I can’t really believe it.
“All eyes on Tokyo,” added Shaw, referring to the 2020 Paralympics in Japan.
American Elizabeth Smith (1:08.12) claimed the bronze medal.
