Elgin super-lightweight Andrew Smart defeated Englishman Dean Jones in his hometown on a successful night for Northern Sporting Club at Elgin town hall.
Smart topped the billing at the “Homecoming” event which marked the first professional boxing in Elgin for 80 years, and the 25-year-old gave the home crowd plenty reason to cheer with an impressive victory over Telford’s Jones.
Smart took charge of his third professional bout, defeating Jones 58-56 on points over six rounds.
Smart was one of four Northern Sporting Club victors, with Dingwall middleweight Ben Bartlett marking his professional debut with a 39-37 triumph over Northern Irishman Alec Bazza over four rounds.
There was also success for Macduff super-welterweight Callum Stuart, who won his second professional bout with a dominant four-round triumph of 40-36 over Englishman MJ Hall.
Stuart’s brother Billy had also been scheduled to fight but was left idle due to his opponent being unable to fight, however promoter David McAllister confirmed he has been hastily rescheduled to fight in an event in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza next Friday, September 27.
Irish super-bantamweight Dylan McDonagh also came out on top against Lithuanian Marius Vysniauskas, with a 39-37 points victory over four rounds.
