Aberdeen gymnast Orianne Slater successfully defended her title at the Disability Artistic British Championships on Sunday.
Slater won all-around gold in the open class 2 senior women’s competition in Leicester to finish ahead of Darcie Loman from South Essex and Notts gymnast Georgia Carney, who took home bronze. Slater produced a superb routine on beam, taking the individual title and also claimed silver on vault, bars and floor which were enough to take the overall title.
A thrilled Slater said: “It was really tough competing against two new participants, so it was important that I didn’t make any mistakes.”
Proud mum Lydie said: “I was really impressed by Orianne’s performance and wish to thank coaches Emily Bull and Trish Swan of Garioch Gymnastics Club as well as Jamie Czop for their contributions towards Orianne’s achievements.”
Garioch gymnastics coach Bull was thrilled to see 17-year-old Slater rise to the occasion in the heat of competition.
She said: “Overall, it was a fab day. A lovely relaxed atmosphere, more experience gained and perhaps a new drive to upgrade the routines even more.
“It was a pleasure to go round with Orianne. The coaches at Garioch Gymnastics Club are so proud of her and the hard work that she has put in. She is a true glitter girl.”
Slater, who was diagnosed with Perthes’ disease at the age of six, was British women’s junior disability gymnastics all-around champion for three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017.
