A Moray sport and fitness lecturer has been appointed one of Team Scotland’s sport team managers for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Stephen Gertsen, lecturer at Moray College UHI, has been named in the role for the second time after coaching the team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Golf Coast, Australia.
Gertsen said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as one of the team managers for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
“I am really looking forward to the individualised development programme, working with the Team Scotland staff, athletes and coaches over the next two years.
“I hope to gain valuable experiences and learning that I will be able to share with our students at Moray College UHI.”
Elinor Middlemiss, Team Scotland Chef de Mission for Birmingham 2022 said: “The sport team managers play a vital role creating the best possible environment for athletes and staff from each sport to excel at the Games, as well as bringing them all together as one Team Scotland.
“I’m delighted to welcome such an exciting and diverse group of returning staff, former athletes and those new to Team Scotland.
“I look forward to working with them all. Having the majority of team managers confirmed so early gives us the opportunity to develop a strong team ethos together and enable our athletes to perform to their best in 2022.”
