Scottish Open: McIlroy breaks course record to keep lead
ByAndy Skinner
Rory McIlroy continues to lead the Aberdeen Asset Management Scotttish Open by a single shot, however his standing at the top of the leaderboard was put under severe threat by Argentinian Ricardo Gonzalez.
Gonzalez – fresh from having watched his nation reach the World Cup final – had led the tournament after an eagle at the 12th hole. However, bogeys at 13 and 16 put him one shot behind McIlroy, and level with Swede Kristoffer Broberg on 65.
Northern Irishman Michael Hoey finished on five under par. Meanwhile Scot Marc Warren finished alongside English duo Luke Donald and Richard Bland on four under par.
Sweden’s Niclas Fasth currently shares that position after 16 holes.
Russell Knox enjoyed a fine return to Scottish golf, finishing three under par despite dropping a shot at the last hole.
