Marc Warren chose the wrong time to have a bad round, eventually signing for a four-over-par 76 on a frustrating final day at the Open.
The 33-year-old Scot, who finished third at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, had been well placed going in to the final round on five under.
But Warren began his day with a double bogey and was unable to get his score heading back in the right direction.
He said: “I suppose it was good to play all four rounds. I am glad this is finished and we have a week off as it’s been a long run.
“I had a good week in Aberdeen last week and it was disappointing to not play well this weekend. But that has been a trend for the last five or six years, so it is not surprising.
“It’s still great and a nice feeling to be out in one of the last groups at the Open.
“The crowds were great – it was a deafening noise when you or your playing partner hit a good shot. It was a great experience and I enjoyed it as much as I could.”
But after playing for five weeks in a row, Warren is ready for some time off.
He added: “My game wasn’t far away but I just wasn’t feeling comfortable with what I was doing.
“The first couple of days were good but it was a disappointing weekend.
“Seventy-six was actually a good score considering some of the places I was putting it. I am looking forward to a nice week of rest coming up.”
