Paul Lawrie’s European Tour return didn’t even last until the first tee after the Aberdonian was forced to pull out of the Made In Denmark event this morning.
The former Open champion suffered back injury en route to Denmark and was unable to play in the Pro-Am on Wednesday.
His worst fears were confirmed today when there was no improvement, forcing him to reluctantly withdraw from the tournament.
The Press and Journal columnist said: “I flew to Aalborg via Amsterdam on Tuesday for this weeks event and I felt my back stiffen up on the flights so it was no surprise when I woke up on Wednesday and struggled to get dressed.
“I only managed to hit five balls on the range before I had to see the tour physio and it was obvious I couldn’t play in the morning shotgun pro-am.
“I hoped it would be better but the back is still no good and I’ve had to pull out this morning and head home.
“It’s very frustrating as I’ve been doing a load of work and felt the best I have in ages. I’m grateful to everyone for creating this week’s Made in Denmark event and I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to the first tee.”
