Stephen Gallacher will discover this afternoon if he is going to be part this month’s Ryder Cup match at Gleneagles.
European captain Paul McGinley will announce his three wildcard picks at lunchtime with Gallacher among the leading contenders along with English trio Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Italy’s Francesco Molinari.
Gallacher is the only one without Ryder Cup experience but came closest to making the team, failing to qualify for one of the nine automatic places by a single shot.
It will be a tough call for McGinley to hand a Ryder Cup rookie one of his captain’s picks ahead of experienced campaigners such as Donald or Westwood but Gallacher’s excellent recent form and impressive record at Gleneagles could be enough to convince the Irishman.
World number one Rory McIlroy has been among those calling for Gallacher to be given a place in the European team.
