Aberdeen Lynx produced one of their best displays of the SNL season to pick up a win on the road against the Paisley Pirates.
After two away defeats last weekend, the Lynx knew an improvement was required as they try to climb the league while rivals Paisley were hoping to maintain their impressive start to the season.
The Lynx made the perfect start to the game, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Defender, Christian Johnson, took the opening goal just before forward, Mark Laing, added a second to give the Lynx the ideal opening to the match.
However, Paisley quickly pulled themselves back into the game and scored their first goal shortly before the end of the first period.
The second period was a tightly contested affair, with neither team able to get on the scoresheet.
Nevertheless it was the Lynx who took control of the match in the third period, adding a further two goals, through defender Callum MacEachran and team captain, Jordan Leyden, to secure an impressive 4-1 victory.
Netminder, Theo Kynoch, was awarded man of the match for his impressive defending techniques between the posts, ensuring the Pirates score was kept minimal.
The result was the team’s first ever win in Paisley and head coach, Rod Ramsay was delighted with his team’s efforts.
“In our previous away games we played very loose ice hockey, however, today we tightened up our form and managed to achieve a very strongly deserved win.
“I am extremely pleased with the team’s efforts, they worked together as a team this weekend and that’s what ultimately wins games,” said Ramsay.
“Our defence improved this week and that has also reflected in the score line. The guys worked really hard on being in the right positions today and it worked out great for us, Theo had a great game tonight in the net and his performance as a whole was fantastic.”
Man of the match, netminder, Theo Kynoch, added: “This weekend’s game was great, we played well and we are all ecstatic at the result.
“We expected this weekend’s game to be extremely hard, however, with our improved form I think we took the Pirates by surprise.”
Next up for the Lynx will be a home game against the North Ayrshire wild at the Lynx Ice Arena on 6 December, doors open 6pm with face off at 7pm.
The Lynx has also organised a charity Bear Drive at this weekend’s home game, inviting fans to bring along and donate a wrapped teddy bear for Original 106 FM’s annual toy appeal.
