The Aberdeen Lynx stormed into the semi finals of the Scottish cup this weekend, led by a fantastic man of the match performance from netminder, Craig Chalmers.
It was to be a physical face-off for the Lynx as they ran out an 8-1 win against North Ayrshire Wild.
The first period started off heated between the teams who were both intent on securing a win, however, it was to be the Lynx who would strike first, taking control of the match.
Lynx forward, Aaron Thomson, was the first to score after some good tactical passing and forwards Sean Dyer and Ian Malcolm, both found the net shortly after, putting the Lynx three points ahead.
The Wild struggled to get to grips with the Lynx’s motivated team and hit the post a number of times, only finding the net moments before the first period ended, scoring their only goal of the evening.
The physical game, which resulted in a number of penalties for both teams and multiple injuries, was to be further dominated by the Lynx as captain Jordan Leyden helped himself to two goals, closely followed by forwards, Ross McIntosh and Jonathan Hogan scoring to give the Lynx a comfortable 7-1 lead.
With spirits running high, the result was already guaranteed, however, the pace of the game definitely slowed in the third, as only one more goal would be scored by Lynx forward Ross McIntosh, gaining his second of the match.
Speaking after the match, Lynx captain, Leyden, said: “The match had the potential to be much closer and if it were not for the efforts of our netminder, Craig Chalmers, our end result could possibly have been a different story.
“After our defeat last weekend we really needed a pick-me-up and we definitely got that this weekend. The rink was almost full again this week and the fans, as always, were fantastic. We’re really fortunate to have such passionate and loyal fans and it’s great to see them having as much fun as we are.
“The team played extremely well, even though a few of us suffered a few fatal blows to the face. I’m proud of the guys on their efforts this weekend and hope that we keep it up.”
The Lynx will now go on to meet with arch-rivals, the Dundee Comets, in what is sure to be a tightly contested semi-final. The date for this match is still to be confirmed.
