A Banffshire seven-year-old is already making quite the name for himself on the go-karting track.
Cooper Earsman started competitive go-karting last year and quickly made a good impression as he was awarded the rising star trophy at Grampian Kart Club (GTK).
As part of the club, Cooper practices and competes at the Boyndie Drome circuit in Banff, which is just a five-minute drive from his home in Whitehills.
He also drives with the North of Scotland Kart Club in Golspie.
The youngster has just signed off on a successful second year behind the wheel of his bambino kart, winning regional and national trophies.
Cooper finished 2022 as Scottish Super Series Champion, Golspie MSUK Open Champion, Boyndie Open Champion and as GTK bambino kart lap record-holder.
He also got time off school to race in England and Wales as part of the Super One Series Championship, where he finished in fourth and fifth place.
Fun, challenging and confidence building
The seven-year-old said of go-karting: “I just like how it’s fun. I like how it’s competitive and it really gets your confidence up because it is really challenging.”
Cooper’s mum Naomi is “very proud” of his achievements this year and hopes that racing is something that he will continue to do as he gets older.
She said: “We are very proud of Cooper’s achievements since starting go-karting. He has a real passion for it and works very hard.
“His dad is his mechanic and spends a lot of time with Cooper at the track practising. Myself and Cooper’s little sisters are always there to cheer him on.
“I hope Cooper will continue long-term, it’s good to have a hobby and he is showing true potential. He can drive better than me at just seven years old!”
Cooper will take the next step in his racing journey next year as he progresses from a bambino kart to cadet level, which includes drivers aged eight to 12 years old.
He is on the look out for sponsors with more information available on Earsman’s Facebook page, which also documents his racing progress.
