Former Olympic decathlon champion Bryan Clay has illustrated a novel way of utilising his talents in everyday life by using a javelin to help remove his daughter’s loose tooth.
The American, who scooped gold in Beijing in 2008, posted a video on Twitter with the line: “What you use javelins for once you’re retired.”
In it he can be seen getting ready to throw a javelin, which has a long piece of string tied to one end with the other end secured around the child’s tooth.
Clay, who also took heptathlon gold in the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships, can be heard saying “where’d it go?” after the successful attempt at the end of the clip, but he reassured fans with a subsequent tweet that his daughter will not miss out on tooth fairy funds.
He said: “Oh no, don’t worry, the tooth is safely under her pillow!”
