World number one Rory McIlroy could miss the Scottish Open and Open Championship after picking up a freak injury.
The Northern Irishman has suffered a total rupture of his left ankle ligaments while playing in a friendly football match with some friends.
The Northern Irishman took to instagram to break the news and told his fans: “Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday.
“Continuing to asses extent of injury and treatment plan day by day. Rehab already started….. Working hard to get back as soon as I can.”
The Scottish Open at Gullane will be held from July 9-12, while the Open Championship will run from July 16–19 at the Old Course in St Andrews
