An Aberdeen schoolgirl has become a Scottish champion only three years after taking up the sport.
Isla Stott became the Scottish Schools under-16 table tennis champion in Bathgate at the weekend by winning all six of her matches against her nearest ranked competitors in the round-robin format.
The 15-year-old, a fourth year pupil at St Margaret’s School for Girls, took up the sport three years ago and now trains seven times a week at the Aberdeen Sports Village as well as at her school’s table tennis club.
And the hard work paid off at the weekend when Stott was crowned Scottish champion.
Stott, who also plays hockey for the Granite City Wanderers, will now compete in the United Kingdom finals in June.
She said: “I was very happy when I won the competition in Bathgate – I just have to keep it up now.
“It was a long, tiring day, but I love table tennis.
“It’s great fun to play and I’m looking forward to the finals in June now.”
Robert Gordon’s College pupil Venus Cheung came third in the girls under-16 category, while Chelsea Wong (Albyn School) was fourth.
There was more north-east success with Banchory Academy pupil Dylan Curry winning the boys under-14 event, while Albyn School’s Tessa Yau became the under-14 girls champion.
Westhill Academy’s Ethan Chapman was second in the boys under-16 section, while Harlaw’s Joseph Cranna finished third.
