Aberdonian Richie Ramsay was delighted when he walked off the 18th green at Castle Stuart after a sparkling 5-under closing round of 67 to secure not only a top-six finish but also one of the four coveted places available in next week’s Open at Royal Troon.
Ramsay, who carded four consecutive birdies on the way out, from the third to the sixth, had the vastly experienced Colin Byrne, who has caddied for former Open champions Paul Lawrie, Retief Goosen and Ernie Els, on his bag this week, and with the Irishman for company on the fairways at Troon next week Ramsay’s chances of success are certainly enhanced.
