Highland head coach Davie Carson was delighted with his side’s return to form after the hard work put in over the festive break, including sessions with a sport psychologist in Inverness.
He said: “We talked at length with the guys about how to close out a game and it seemed to have worked. Even the debrief after the game was a success.
“It was great to come through a game without conceding a point. Our defence was excellent. We are now raring to have a crack at Lasswade, who are just beneath us in the league.”
Highland were quickly into their stride, playing some attractive rugby which led to first-half tries for winger Grant Jamieson and hooker Callum Carson, both of which were converted by Scott Fraser.
Highland grew in confidence in the second half, adding two more touchdowns to claim a valuable try bonus point, enabling them to close to within three points of leaders Dumfries Saints and go level with St Boswells. The unconverted tries were scored by centre David Titteringham and replacement Darren McLeod.
Orkney’s game at Haddington was called off due to an outbreak of flu.
