Caledonia 1 leaders Gordonians will bid to extend their lead at the top tomorrow by completing a hat-trick of wins against Aberdeen Wanderers.
Gordonians president Jim Sugden said: “We aim to make it three in a row, having won in the league and then in the Caley Shield, but we know we’ll get a good game, especially as they had a big win against Carnoustie last week. We have the league title in our sights and mean to keep it there.”
Wanderers joint coach Fraser Burr was equally bullish and said: “We are learning every week since going up and had our confidence boosted by last week’s 63-0 win.”
The newly-structured set-up in Caledonia 2 North gets under way tomorrow when the top three from Caledonia 2 North (East) join up with their West counterparts to play for promotion to the top Caledonia league.
The six-team league kicks off with Banff meeting RAF Lossiemouth, Moray playing Aberdeen Grammar and Garioch hosting Highland 2nds.
Points from games against the top three teams from each league are carried forward, giving Garioch a one-point advantage in the new format.
The three bottom sides from the two sections play to decide which side drops down to Caledonia 3 North, starting with Lochaber meeting Shetland and Ellon playing Ross Sutherland. Stornoway and Deeside have no games in the new structure.
In Caledonia 3 North, Aberdeen University Medics can move 16 points clear should they beat Aberdeen University at King’s College. They have played two more games than their rivals, who would close the gap to two points if they won.
