Orkney will look to bounce back from last weekend’s unexpected 63-0 defeat at Lasswade when they head south to take on Greenock Wanderers in National 3 tomorrow.
Scrum half William Thomson, playing at fly half due to injuries in the squad, said: “We went to Lasswade with a young team and it was our first game back after five or six weeks without a game over the festive period. Our last game was on December 10.
“We were short with a few of the lads injured at that time, although the young boys will learn from the experience. Lasswade played well and we played badly. It’s just one of those things from time to time in amateur rugby.”
Thomson is aware Greenock are propping up the table but he and his team-mates will not take them lightly.
He added: “Hopefully we have one or two, such as Philip Ross, back this week. Philip will boost our back line. Training was good on Tuesday so everything is looking positive.
“We need a win if we don’t want to go on a losing streak, so the sooner we can get another win the better.
“We hope to finish in the top half. With the injuries we’ve had I think that would be a good performance. We finished sixth last year, the same again would be a positive.”
