Stuart Hogg and Tommy Seymour have been selected for the British Lions squad for their upcoming tour of New Zealand.
Hogg, who plays as a full back, and Seymour who operates on the wing, are the only two Scots to be selected in Warren Gatland’s side.
The decision comes following an impressive spell for the Scottish national side that culminated in a magnificent performance in the RBS 6 Nations.
However, a 61-21 thrashing at Twickenham at the hands of England may have made Gatland think twice before selecting a larger group of Vern Cotter’s men.
Although today’s lacklustre representation will come as little surprise, it comes in stark contrast to the national side’s form given no fewer than three players were given the initial call four years ago.
Hogg, Seymour, Sean Maitland, Tim Visser, Huw Jones, Duncan Taylor, Finn Russell, Greg Laidlaw, Richie Gray, Jonny Gray and Hamish Watson all did enough to be specifically namechecked by the Lions coach prior to the defeat and will be disappointed, if not at all surprised, not to have been selected.
Sam Warburton meanwhile will be the second player, following Martin Johnson, to captain two British Lions tours.
