Gordonians suffered a 50-12 home defeat against GHK in a frustrating game for the team in the midst of a relegation dogfight.

The Countesswells side could only respond with two tries to GHK’s eight in a display riddled by unforced errors, which disappointed their head coach Ryan Morrice.

He said: “We gave away too many penalties and made basic errors when we got the ball. It’s the way our season has gone.”

The hosts struggled to make any inroads into the GHK defence in the first half. as Angus Lindsay, Danny Campbell and Ben Hutton scored to put the visitors 19-0 up within the first quarter.

The Gordonians forwards were working hard but GHK continued to find holes in their defence, as Cameron Hughes and Hugh Parker crossed the whitewash to give the Glasgow side an unassailable lead at half-time.

Gordonians started the second half brightly, though, and were rewarded with a well-worked try from the ever-reliable Thomas Williams.

Thomas Urquhart added the extras and the prop’s try was followed by a skilful score by winger Jamie Wills as he side-stepped his opposite number on the outside before bundling over in the corner.

Victory remained an unlikely prospect but it looked like Gordonians would salvage some pride in the second half.

The hosts paid the price for a catalogue of handling errors, however, as GHK once again found holes aplenty in their defence.

The visitors added three more tries as Jack Cuthbert, Hughes and Hutton added to their tally in a strong display by GHK, who have had a fine season with former Scotland man Peter Wright at the helm.
