Gordonians were cruelly denied a first win on the road at Newton Stewart in their fraught campaign in National 2.
Newton Stewart kicked a penalty in the last minute to put them into a 19-17 lead, but even then the drama was not finished as, only seconds later, Gordonians were given a similar award and an opportunity to snatch back the lead.
Unfortunately for the visitors, replacement Graeme Crawford’s attempt at goal from a wide angle was just wide of the posts.
Head coach Ryan Morrice said: “It sums up our season, although we played so much better than the previous week when GHK beat us 50-12. We didn’t get off to a good start, conceding 13 points in the first nine minutes, but after a bus journey of over 200 miles that is almost understandable.
“Once we got over that bad start, we settled down to play some our best rugby of the season and pick up a losing bonus point.”
The home side went into the break 16-10 up, having added a penalty to their early flurry of points. But they were stunned by the fighting comeback from the Aberdeen team who scored through a try from Chris McIroy, converted by William Parker, who also kicked the extras and a penalty.
The two repeated their heroics in the second half to cancel and surpass the home total of 16, only to be devastated by late drama.
Gordonians must now prepare for another away day on Saturday when they travel to Border country where they will meet Peebles at the Gytes.
Gordonians are second bottom of National League 2 with 10 points from 11 games.
Elsewhere, bottom side Whitecraigs went down 33-10 at Peebles, Kirkcaldy enjoyed a 31-25 success at Falkirk and Stewart’s-Melville defeated Hamilton Bulls 38-17. Preston Lodge edged Dumfries Saints 20-14.
