A handful of games survived the wet weather in the Caledonian area at the weekend.

Among them was the clash involving Caley 2 North leaders 2nd Highland who took advantage of second-placed Moray not being in action to move 11 points clear at the head of the division.

Highland beat North Police Scotland 64-27 although the Elgin side now have two games in hand.

In the only other game played in the division, RAF Lossiemouth were convincing 31-0 winners at the Lossie base.

In the Northern section of Caley 3 North, the top of the table clash between 3rd Highland and Kinloss Eagles was won 28-18 by the Inverness men at Canal Park but they remain nine points behind their beaten opponents.

While there was little action in the Caledonian area, a former Mackie player was making his debut in the Premiership Cup when he played for Newcastle Falcons against Northampton Saints in Newcastle.

Jamie Berrisford, a lock, did not make a winning start to his professional career but had the satisfaction of playing a major part in the thrilling 31-28 defeat by the Saints, one of the leading sides in the Gallagher Premiership.

Jamie’s father Paul is a life member at the Stonehaven club, turning out on a regular basis over the years at Redcloak.

Mackie president Neil Foster was delighted with the progress the youngster was making in the top English game.

He said: “We are all enormously proud of Jamie. It’s sure to be an inspiration for all our youth sections at the club.”
