Aberdeenshire had a day on the road to forget, starting with the team bus being held up in traffic and then having to cope with the confusion of both sides playing in near-identical kits.
“We turned in a thoroughly inept performance in the first half but improved immeasurably in the second half,” said Alex Duncan, the Shire performance director.
“By that time the Biggar confidence was high. It was a bad day but we can turn it around for our big game at home to leaders Hamilton. The clash of kits should never have been allowed to happen.”
Shire were 13-0 down by half-time, with all the home points coming from stand off Francois Nel, who scored a try, a conversion and two penalties.
Shire eventually found their feet, rallying in the second half with fine tries scored by centre Jason Laurich and flanker Matthew Emmison, both of which were converted by stand off Adam Blake.
Going into the last three minutes Shire seemed to have done enough to have won the game, only to be hit by a late penalty which, after Nel had gained 50 yards, resulted in the home pack bundling the ball over the Shire line for a try converted by Nel.
