Aberdeen Grammar continue to perplex as they go from the sublime to the ridiculous.
From looking a promotion-seeking team, Grammar could well be drawn into a relegation struggle if they lose to Watsonians and Stewart’s-Melville in their next two National 1 games.
The performance against Edinburgh Accies was poor and coach Stuart Corsar said: “We were not mentally strong enough against an Accies side which was smart and exploited our many weaknesses well. We must now aim for maximum points from the next two games.”
Grammar made a good start, taking the lead through stand off Alex Hagart’s fourth-minute penalty, only for the Raeburn Place side to hit back with a try almost immediately.
Hagart regained the Grammar lead in 12 minutes but thereafter it was one-way traffic as Accies ran in a further four touchdowns to lead 25-9 at half-time.
The only relief for the visitors was a third penalty from Hagart.
The rout continued in the second half as the home side ran in five more tries, but stand off Stuart Evans was able to convert only two of them, otherwise Grammar would have been faced by a cricket score. In conceding 10 touchdowns serious questions must be asked about the Aberdeen ability to defend.
Failing to cross the Accies line also brings into question what has gone wrong since the same Grammar team scored seven tries against Peebles the previous weekend.
