Some of the greats from the international rugby field will take centre stage in Aberdeen later this year in a tribute to one of the legends of the commentary box.
The sporting occasion will support the Bill McLaren Foundation and aims to build on the success of an inaugural north-east fundraiser for the charity in March, which brought in more than £25,000 to aid the foundation’s work.
All money raised at north-east events is being allocated to support projects in the region. The black-tie dinner will be held at the Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday, November 13, ahead of Scotland’s autumn test match against New Zealand.
Guests will be in the company of some of the sport’s finest, with former All Blacks captain Sean Fitzpatrick, ex-Scotland skipper Rob Wainwright and Scotland legend Jim Renwick all in attendance. Television sports presenter Jill Douglas will host the evening. Linda Lawson, Bill McLaren’s daughter and a leading light in the foundation, said: “We are thrilled to be returning to Aberdeen.
The initial rugby lunch earlier this year was a great success and we were touched by the generosity of everyone involved. “The foundation has been established to support grassroots sport but naturally there is a strong affinity with rugby.
“The autumn tests are always popular with supporters and everyone is looking forward to the New Zealand match in particular. To have Sean, Rob, Jim and Jill join us for our evening is wonderful. “I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to Specialist Subsea Services for their support of the event as main sponsor – backing which ensures all money raised on the night will go directly to the foundation’s projects.”
Graeme Kidd, managing director of Specialist Subsea Services, added: “We’re delighted to sponsor this event. The Bill McLaren Foundation does an excellent job of keeping one of the great names in Scottish sport alive and as a company we have tremendous admiration for the spirit of charity and its ambitions to support grassroots sport throughout the country. There’s a great passion for rugby within Specialist Subsea Services and it promises to be a memorable evening.”
The event will have a more formal feel than the March lunch, with a three-course dinner and drinks on arrival for guests.
