The Scottish Fire Service has said that units responded to a “false alarm” at a disused north-east factory.
Reports of a blaze at the former Grampian Chicken site on Tannery Street in Banff came flooding in at about 4pm when smoke was spotted blanketing the area.
However, a spokeswoman for the fire service has said that there is “absolutely” no fire.
“It was a false alarm,” she said.
A spokeswoman for the police added that officers were aware of the reports, but could not explain the reason for them.
Tannery Street has since become gridlocked with cars as concerned residents drive by the factory to inspect for themselves.
