James Dabill holds a two-point lead going into the penultimate day of the Scottish Six Days Trial in Fort William.
Despite three marks against his name on day four, Dabill continues to hold off the challenge of reigning champion Dougie Lampkin, sitting two points ahead going into the 96-mile course on day five.
His group of 50 riders took to the route first yesterday and he negotiated it smartly to maintain the lead he has held since day two. Lampkin, who has battled bike problems all week, nursed his way across the rugged moor crossings and only lost two marks. He opens Friday’s proceedings.
Local rider Gary Macdonald is four marks further back on 10, with Jack Price and Andrew Chilton rounding out the top five with 13 apiece.
Emma Bristow remains in control of the women’s category, leading Sandra Gomez by a huge eighty marks. The best newcomer battle is a much tighter affair, with four points separating Jiri Svoboda from Thomas Housecroft.
Day five is the longest route of the competition, taking in Pipers Burn, Glenuig, Laudale, Kilmalieu and Rubha Ruadh, before heading over the Corran Ferry back towards Fort William.
