Aberdeen moved up to second position in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-0 win against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
The Dons took the lead thanks to a controversial 25th minute penalty from Adam Rooney after Kilmarnock goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald was adjudged to have fouled James Maddison.
Andrew Considine doubled Aberdeen’s advantage five minutes after the break before Ash Taylor volleyed home a third in the 66th minute .
With the Killie defence in disarray, Rooney grabbed his second of the game in the 71st minute to extend Aberdeen’s winning run against the Ayrshire side to 11 consecutive matches.
The Dons made two changes from the team that defeated Rangers 2-1 last weekend with Maddison, the scorer of the game’s winning goal, replacing Peter Pawlett, while Taylor was reinstated at the expense of Mark Reynolds.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes had won every single encounter with Kilmarnock since arriving at Pittodrie in 2013 and his side enjoyed the better of the opening stages.
Niall McGinn stung the palms of MacDonald with a fierce drive from distance before the Kilmarnock goalkeeper made an equally fine stop to deny Jonny Hayes.
The Dons took the lead after 25 minutes in controversial circumstances when MacDonald was penalised for a foul on Maddison, which appeared a very harsh decision, and Rooney calmly converted from the penalty spot.
The visitors, incensed by the decision, were appealing for a penalty of their own soon after when Kris Boyd tumbled to the ground under minimal pressure from Andy Considine – but this time referee Willie Collum waved play on.
The Dons extended their lead five minutes after the restart when the hosts failed to deal with a Maddison corner and Considine expertly volleyed the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards out.
Aberdeen were well on top and went close to a third when Rooney’s curling effort was tipped over the crossbar by the overworked MacDonald.
It was only a matter of time before the Dons added a third and it eventually arrived in the 66th minute when the unmarked Taylor volleyed home a Maddison corner.
Rooney should have scored a fourth soon after when he latched onto a clever pass from Niall McGinn but uncharacteristically fired wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The Irishman passed up another great chance when Greg Taylor’s woefully short back-pass allowed him another free shot at goal which cannoned off the crossbar.
But Rooney was not to be denied and finally got his second goal in the 71st minute after good build-up play from Hayes.
