Ross County captain Richard Brittain claims sticking to his usual routine was key to scoring the goal which secured Scottish Premiership safety for his club against Hibernian last night.
Brittain netted the only goal of the game with a 63rd minute penalty as the Staggies got the three points required to avoid a final day of drama at Partick Thistle on Saturday.
The County midfielder said: “I just tried to do what I normally do – imagine the goalkeeper is not there and focus on where you want to put it. I did that and thankfully I put it away.
“Ask any player, those are the games you want to be involved in.
“I’m no different and we are very thankful we managed to get the result. Understandably, it was quite a nervous game because whoever won was sure of staying in the top league.”
County have avoided a tense finish but the same cannot be said for their opponents Hibs who face the prospect of a winner takes all final game against Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Brittain is relieved his club has avoided a similar fate after their important win at Victoria Park.
He said: “It’s difficult. There is not a lot between the teams at the bottom. It’s maybe whoever can keep their head and get the rub of the green. We got that break with the penalty. We’re just glad we’ve done the business.
“We were determined to do it. We had a bit of bite about us. We maybe started slowly but I thought we finished excellently and had good chances on the counter attack. I thought we were worthy winners.”
