Gary Cornish admitted his return to the ring was bittersweet after a quick-fire stoppage of Sheffield giant David Howe at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza.
The Highlander had six-foot-eight Howe on the canvas four times inside 90 seconds before referee Derek Pringle called a halt to the contest, with Cornish still having plenty left he wanted to do in the ring.
It was his first fight since the British heavyweight title defeat to Sam Sexton in October and after reuniting with former coach Liam Foy before the new year, the pair had tactics they wanted to showcase.
However Cornish’s quick work proved far too much for Howe, who offered little challenge to the Inverness fighter.
He said: “Me and Liam have been working on a lot of things and I didn’t get a chance to show them. I’m happy to get the knockout but there’s a lot of stuff we wanted to show people.
“I need to get a few more rounds under my belt but that will come with sparring. Hopefully there’s plenty more sparring to come. Wherever we need to go for sparring, we’ll go. Liam goes anywhere with me.”
